LARP excitement

Having a nom
This is how geeky I am. In my excitement about the LARP at Kapcon I have decided to blog about it. I have my outfit sorted out and I have my character and an idea of what my goals will be on the night. What I am going to plan now is how to avoid the gigantic LARP hangover I had last year.
(Pictures are last year’s Kapcon LARP “Sanctuary”, taken by Baz.)
Symptoms of last year’s LARP hangover were: tiredness, dehydration, muscle ache and an inability to focus.
Tiredness is unavoidable. The LARP happens on Saturday night, it goes late, and I will have been flat out all day running games and (hopefully) getting to play a game as well. So we’ll just kind of ignore this one, although if I work hard to sit down as often during the LARP I might not be so tired. Would also help with muscle ache.
I figure that this year, unlike any previous year, I shall carry a bag. My bag can have my character sheet, my camera and a bottle of water. If I take a sip every time I get thirsty this should stem any longer lasting issues from talking all night.
I have a trick for the 48 hour film competition when I get home on the night of the stressful Saturday I have a bath. It relaxes me so much, gives me time to process the day and eases any incipient muscle ache. I will do this after the LARP this year as well, come home and have a soak. I’m looking forward to it already.
Inability to focus is another tough one. Mostly I think it’s due to tiredness….so all I can do is try to decrease the amount it affects me. I can get around this by making sure I have a good breakfast (eggs and toast? Porridge? Fresh fruit and toast? Seems like I’d need more than mini-wheats anyway.) Keeping hydrated should help with this too when I come to think about it. Maybe I’ll let myself have a can of coke on Sunday morning too…give me that extra boost.

I always get sore feet from standing around so much too. I wore super comfy flats last year and this happened, I’m going to wear even more comfy shoes this year and see what happens.
Any other suggestions from the LARP experienced in the audience?

I’m in the Italian Mafia, the Cosa Nostra. I’m in the mini-team Malindrino Misfits with Nick, Giffy and Margie. There’s a few of our family not yet cast so you could ask for one of those or just ask for a character likely to interact with me. I’ll confirm I like playing with you if they ask ;p

Eat during the LARP and again when you get home. It’s crazy how much energy your brain will burn during the LARP, and an extra healthy snack (like a banana or a sandwich with lots of salad in it) at 1am can help a body feel better in the morning.
Of course, my solution to most problems is to eat a sandwich

I’m thinking of bringing an eski of food to Kapcon to make sure I eat good food during the day!

I think the inability to focus is an intensity-overload thing… I freaked out in the LARP last year and ran away, so my aim this year is to last the distance
