Things I Love Thursday

Life is a bit hard right now, for various reasons. Hopefully with Spring properly blooming things will look up some more… anyway, maybe you need a bit of cheering up too.

This is a really important song about mindfulness and not letting anxiety take over your mind.

(I still haven’t watched enough Steven Universe but whatever.)

Picture is by the fantastic Latest Kate, who does a great line in cute animals with encouraging things to say. I bought me and Anna mugs of hers which arrived this week just at the perfect time.

Anyway, if you want more encouragement, my Love Yourself tag on tumblr is a pretty good place.

Spring is making blossoms happen and sprouts appear and the sunshine is lasting longer. It is very cold today but I’m hoping once the storm has passed we’ll be back to the lovely sunshine we had last week.

Honourable Mentions: Anna, Professional cleaner coming round to our house tomorrow, jogger chinos from Hallensteins (comfiest pants ever), my Instax camera, Japan Mart and the excellent foods from there, Pokemon Go, decluttering, Dance Moms, getting crafts done and awesome friends new and old.

Things I Love Thursday

Adulting – I have spent the first few weeks of the year doing stuff I really want to put off but know I should do. Dentist, mole removal, smear, all the crap. Today I got a filling and the dentist said not to worry about coming back for another 9 months, my lip’s still a bit numb but eh, it’s the numbness of knowing I did the right thing. I wish it wasn’t so expensive though!

Anna is lovely and I love her ❤ We talk and laugh and cuddle and go to shows and shopping and it's good.

Shows! We went to see Phantom of the Opera on the weekend and it was incredibly good. Great costumes, great leads and exciting special effects.

Editing, it’s been pretty full on – this latest edit is time heavy but good lord I can see how much tighter and better the manuscript is for it! I spent about 4 hours around work editing yesterday, big plans for spending most of the weekend editing as well.

Honourable Mentions: rewatching New Girl and realising Winston is the best character, jugs of lemonade raro, takeaway roast dinners, playing Dance Central, soft comfy Peter Alexander pj pants, Captain America singlet, weird dreams and writing inspiration.

No more stitches! which is obviously super good and the thing I am the most excitable about because the stitches were horrible and pulling. BUT the actually really good news aside from my healing going well, is that all three of the moles removed from me were not cancerous or even vaguely malignant so I don’t need another mole check for a year!

Anna who remains amazing and lovely, taking care of me when I need it and making me laugh and generally being the best other half I’ve ever… in fact I’ve never really liked the term ‘other half’ but in this case, I love that I have someone who knows me so well and who is so willing to work at communication and co-habiting.

Watching movies like Sense & Sensibility, Pride & Prejudice and Julie & Julia. Apparently I have a taste for movies with an ampersand in the title. In addition to watching 500 list movies, I have been loving comfort watching as well.

Comics: I’m really enjoying the comics I’m pulling at the moment, particularly the Robin Wars storyline and the Grayson title, they’re so funny, the art’s gorgeous and Dick Grayson gets to be himself.

Honourable Mentions: postcards, new series of Face Off, friends moving to Auckland, discover weekly on spotify, long weekends back to back, catch ups with dear friends, comfy pants and chocolate.

Things I Love Thursday

This week I am thankful for…

Kapcon is this weekend. I’m really looking forward to it! Lots of gaming, trying out my new game, seeing so very many friends and playing what looks like a very fun LARP. Woo!

Field Notes and in particular the gorgeous ‘snow blind’ editions that are white but turn pale blue in direct sunlight. Just beautiful design and lovely notebooks to use.

Postcards: I really love writing, sending and receiving postcards! It’s just really appealing to me. I need a couple more penpals to do this with…

Rainbow's End

Rainbow’s End

Rainbow’s End may not be the fanciest or flashest theme park, but it is also the only one we can drive to. It’s also really fun! A group of us went on Saturday and had a lot of fun shouting FLUUUME! going on the Pirate Ship, the roller coaster, the gold rush and of course, the log flume. So much fun.

Netflix allowing us to watch Most Haunted, and Anna to watch How to Train Your Dragon serieses and me to watch Jessica Jones. Very convenient way to access TV, unless you’re not sure what you want to watch and then it’s a wealth of endless nothingness. But it also has a new season of New Girl so the endless nothingness is at bay.

Healing, I have been pathetically pathetic about getting surgery last week but there are some good things about it: Anna looking after me, painkillers, waterproof bandage tape stuff and sleep. Sleep has been very important to me in this last week.

Honourable Mentions: hot summer sunshine, tiny shorts, taking off the bra on the return home, people asking me for advice, watching 500 movies again, home made pizza, fresh baby carrots, growing things and sleeping.

Things I Love Thursday

Trying to get back into the habit of posting these… and there’s no time like when you’re feeling really pathetic, as I am right now. I had three moles removed last night as preventative measure to stop them maybe becoming melanomas. I have never had surgery before, outside of dental procedures so I was very nervous, and I was unprepared for the effect it would have on my body. Perhaps if only one or two had been taken I wouldn’t be feeling so wretched but… I had three removed and I feel wretched.

Anna who does wonderful things like hold my hand while I get shots or showing me Maru videos when I feel too pathetic for words. She’s amazing, she’s cute, she is awesome.

My friends who came through with encouraging and comforting words on facebook, you all rule!

Circumstances… I mean, it’s a pretty good problem to have – to be able to afford to get mole maps and pay to have the dodgy looking ones removed. I’m thankful. I’m also very thankful for understanding workmates who would rather I go home and sleep than pass out at my desk (which I dunno, felt like it might have been imminent).

Editing: I mean, on the one hand I’m sick of it, but on the other I feel like I’ve seriously upskilled and I’m onto the last 70 or so pages of my YA novel edit and that feels pretty damn great.

Honourable Mentions: Circus Circus food, paying money to have stuff delivered from America quite quickly, takeaway roast shops, Candyman in Mt Eden, excellent books, fun card games, running a good session of Monster of the Week, looking forward to Kapcon, growing sunflowers and watching movies.

Things I Love Thursday

C. Spike Trotman‘s talk from xoxofest about succeeding in indie comics even though everyone told her it wouldn’t work. Inspiring on lots of creative, kickstarter, indie levels:

Fangirl and Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. My third time reading Fangirl, and this time aloud to Anna who is loving it, and we both keep laughing. Carry On is kind of a spinoff/sideways sequel ish thing and I am looooving that too. Rainbow is such a fantastic writer ❤

Rainbow's End Night Rides when it's really quiet! Anna and I were right in figuring long weekend + Armageddon + rainy day would mean less people at the park and our waits for rides were minimal, and we got to see a fire dancing show! Also I got a candy floss which was not only substantially bigger than my head, but it glowed!

all hail the glow cloud

Armageddon was also fun and I got to catch up with some friends. Saw lots of super cool cosplays, bought some really great merch, got a bit ragey at the crowds and overall found the experience a bit draining, but fun!

My little herb and vege garden doing really well

Honourable Mentions: Seeing people using playlists I made on Spotify, watching Glee, playing Rock Band, eating homemade donburi, colouring in, Heroes for Sale comic shop, new books, writing motivation and energy, my workmates and the lovely, wonderful and sweet Anna.

Alarms in the Heart ~ Dry the River

Letters from the Sky ~ Civil Twilight

Things I Love Thursday

Having Anna back from holiday is the best thing. It has been more than a week now, but it’s just so nice to have her back. Love my Anna.

Rainbow’s End a bunch of us went the week before last to ride ‘after dark’ in the spooky in the Night Frights late opening. It was so much fun! I discovered on the log flume with Nick that shouting ‘FLUUUME’ at random times makes the flume even more fun, and it also makes the roller coaster less terrifying. Basically yelling ‘FLUUUUME!’ is just really fun.

Roleplaying on our weekend flying visit to Wellington we managed to convince Paul to run us a session of Masks which is a new apocalypse world hack where you play teen superheroes. I played a ‘whatever, I don’t care’ Delinquent teleporter and it was so much fun! Also I think I’m getting the hang of how to run Monster of the Week, three sessions in, and that makes me very happy.

Rock Band 4. I got the Band in a Box set and it’s so much fun.

Honourable Mentions: See’s Candies, birthdays and birthday presents, Face Off, Ribena, driving my car and Nightwing.
