Actual Play Report – Fall – ‘Full House’

It’s Friday night, about a week and a half since the events of last episode. Alex is studying at home, she’s been working hard on getting her grades back up from the Bs she’s been getting lately, she hasn’t been patrolling and she’s been avoiding the rest of the gang. Darius would normally be bugging her about this but he’s been ‘sick’, hanging out at home to avoid the jock he took out. Megan has been keeping on keeping on and Calvin’s grades are actually going up, since Gina is a good influence and he’s actually been going to school.

It’s a normal Friday night, her father is cooking dinner, her mother is working on a new movie script and her little brother Jarod is out at a friend’s place. She goes to bed a bit past midnight and gets up at her usual sleep in time around 9.30 on Saturday. When she gets downstairs there’s something slightly weird, something different. Alex places it: no Saturday morning cartoons playing. She goes into the kitchen where she has a mundane conversation with her parents, about curtains and study and stuff. Then her mother says, ever so casually, ‘Where’s your brother?’

Suddenly the kitchen is full of tension, Jared never came home the night before. The parents make some calls around the parents of Jarod’s friends but they haven’t seen him. They then take their cars and start driving around town. Alex goes out for a jog which happens to take her to Megan’s house. Megan’s front door is opened by Jim Lock, locksmith and lothario. Megan and Alex go online and track down a football team photo which shows the names of all of Jarod’s team mates. Alex then looks them up in the online phone book and jogs by each and every house, but no one has seen Jarod.

Once Alex has left Megan gives Darius a call and they have a talk about what could have happened. Megan had been careful not to say anything worrisome, like what might have happened to Jarod. But she let it out when she spoke to Darius. Together they went through options for what to do.

Alex gets home in the mean time. Her mother is freaking out. Alex calls Darius, who is still on the phone. Impatient she texts him and he calls her back.
‘Can you do that spell again? Where you find something with a little stick?’
Darius: Yeah that spell wasn’t too eye-bleedy. I could do it again.
Alex: Have you got everything you need for it?
Darius: Uh…yeah…no, I need the hair of a thief.
Alex: I’ll be right over.

Alex calls Calvin, who doesn’t answer right away. In fact his phone rings and rings. When she gets the answerphone Alex hangs up and calls back immediately.
Calvin: yeah? What? I’m not awake.
Alex: I need one of your hairs.
C: buh?
A: Darius is going to do that spell again.
C: uh huh
A: so shall I come over and get it or will you meet us there?
C: Uh… meet you there.
A: OK. *hangs up*
Alex then immediately texts Calvin with ‘Get dressed and come now!’
There is a fan servicey shot of Calvin getting up, from the far side of the bed to the camera. Because we’re trying to get our ratings back up to HBO standards, Calvin is not wearing pjs.

Alex walks straight into Darius’s house and scares him half to death by appearing behind him. Megan has arrived also, I think Darius called her. Alex paces restlessly until she hears the familiar sound of kermit pulling in. As soon as Calvin crosses the threshold Alex comes towards him, Calvin raises an arm ‘Yeah, OK,’ too late, she yanks some hairs off him and goes to Darius. Calvin sarcastically says ‘ow. Hi Calvin,’ and she replies, snaps out really, ‘my brother is missing!’

While Darius does the spell Calvin takes some coffee from the machine in Darius’s kitchen and gives one to Alex. ‘It’ll calm you down,’ he says. She looks vaguely disoriented by the gesture. As soon as the spell starts working the gang all pile into kermit and head across town. Alex is in the back seat leaning forward anxiously, Calvin drives even faster than he normally does. The magic wire brings the gang to an old brownstone with an overgrown lawn.

There is a note pinned to the door which says “Jehovah’s witnesses and bible bashers welcome”. The curtains are drawn on all the windows and the low basement windows are painted black. Alex knocks on the door. No response. She pounds the door and from within a voice says ‘we don’t want any!’

From kermit’s trunk the gang arm up. Alex takes a machete and sticks a couple of stakes down her pants. Well, into her jeans pockets I guess. Calvin takes the fire axe, Megan takes a huge flashlight and Darius a baseball bat. Alex then strides up to the door and breaks it in. In the first room there is the slumped body of a dead Jehovah’s Witness, there is blood everywhere. Further into the house they find a flying monkey, it’s leashed to the stove in the kitchen and attacks as soon as Alex opens the door. It rakes her arm with its claws and she cuts off one of its wings with her machete. Megan assists by shining the flashlight in the thing’s eyes. Calvin circles around to the other entrance to the kitchen to hopefully get a swing at the monkey but it flees through the cat door.

Darius follows the magic wire down into the basement. On his own. Because he has apparently never seen a horror movie.

In the basement Darius discovers Jarod tied to a light fighting and unconscious, two red wounds on his neck. Darius is moving towards him when he is tripped up, there is someone else there with him. His arm is scratched up on the banister as he falls but manages roll back into a standing position, his baseball bat clatters to the floor and rolls away. He is attacked from behind by a vampire. Darius headbutts backwards, using his telekinesis to make the hit worse. The vamp stumbles and then laughs creepily and punches Darius in the kidneys. It’s at this point that Alex, Calvin and Megan come down the stairs.
Vamp: Hey boys, did you order takeout?

Megan shines her torch around the basement revealing the vampire wrestling with Darius, a tattooed and ugly vamp in the middle of the room, a vamp in a business suit and a female vamp dressed skankily. The last two are feeding off a passed out guy in a boiler suit but stand up to fight. Alex runs forward to engage the skank first, machete drawn. The tattoo vamp attacks Alex from behind. Calvin joins the fight, attacking the tattoo vamp, he lands his axe in the vamp’s back, getting its attention. The vamp wheels around and swipes at Calvin, scratching his neck and clipping him on the chin. Calvin retaliates by yanking the axe out of the vamp’s shoulder, hefting it two handed and bringing it down on his head. The vampire is dusted. (BTW, for those keeping score, that’s Calvin’s first proper kill, with no help ‘softening up’ the vamp from the slayer. Booyah.)

Meanwhile Megan is remaining safe at the top of the stairs, shining her torch in the vamp’s faces when she can. Darius looks to Jarod and gets him untied and upstairs. He is unresponsive.

The accountant vamp attacks Alex with a pipe, using it to choke her as she whales on the vamp girlfriend, machete through the gut. Calvin swings his axe again and lands it in the neck of the accountant. Alex headbutts the accountant, the skank stabs Alex with a butterfly knife and then Alex stakes the accountant, dusting him.

With just one vampire left, Megan finds her bravery and joins in, trying to clock the skank vamp in the head with the heavy torch. She misses but the skank is distracted, Alex slams her across the room with one kick. Megan, who is closest, stakes the vamp in the chest, but can’t get it in deep enough for the kill. In an epic move Alex drives it home with a spin kick.

Alex immediately turns and follows Darius upstairs, Megan and Calvin close behind. Darius had been trying to get Jarod outside as fast as possible but the kitchen door still has a wounded and angry flying monkey attached to it, its leash string through te cat door. Darius slams the door in its face and goes to the main entrance, the others catch up as he puts the body on the ground. Calvin uses his new first aid knowledge to check Jarod’s condition, it doesn’t look too bad, blood loss and choking wounds mostly.

The others debate whether to call an ambulance but Alex decides the quickest thing is Kermit so they all pile into to the car, telling the hospital to expect a new patient. Calvin drives them all through town, the ER team is ready with a gurney and whisks Jarod away as soon as Kermit pulls up. The others follow in, but they take him into surgery and leave the gang in the waiting room. Alex calls her parents and lets them know what’s happening. Then she turns and goes into the girl’s bathroom.

Megan notices Calvin’s neck slowly seeping blood: We need a doctor.
Calvin, watching Alex disappear: Uh, shouldn’t you follow her?
M: What about you?
C: I can’t go in the girls’ bathroom.
M: I mean, you’re bleeding.
C: I’m OK.

Megan goes into the bathroom to check on Alex. Calvin flags down a hot nurse and gets fixed up. Alex is trying to clean herself up, using damp paper towels and the bathroom sink. She looks up briefly when Megan comes in and goes into a stall to fix up the stab wound and minimise the blood stains on her pants. She asks Megan to pass her some more paper towels but doesn’t say anything else.

Alex’s parents arrive at the hospital and the doctor tells them that Jarod is in a bad way but has stabilised. The credits roll as Alex goes into his room with her parents and Megan, Darius and Calvin are left in the waiting room.
